About Janine
Hi, thank you for being here!
I'm Janine, an artist and illustrator based in Toronto, Ontario, and the creative mind behind Janine Payne Illustrations.
I love experimenting with different media and trying new ways to be creative. However, oil pastels have stolen my heart and have quickly become my favourite medium to work with.
Their textures and bright colours have become the foundation of my work and the heart of my small business! It's hard to believe Janine Payne Illustrations all began back in 2024 with a few silly oil pastel doodles in my sketchbook.
Now you'll find my oil pastel illustrations on handmade stationery goods, like greeting cards, prints, stickers, and more. All lovingly crafted in my home studio. From drawing and designing to printing and packaging, it's all made by me!
After studying Art Fundamentals and Illustration at Seneca College, I launched my creative career in the corner of my living room, drawing every chance I got and creating handmade stationery. I have since grown Janine Payne Illustrations (and now have a whole room to myself for a studio!!) by making art with oil pastels and selling my creations online, at in-person events, and retail locations!
A lot of my inspiration comes from the world around me, everyday moments, silly jokes I've heard, memories, and small joys. I love taking ordinary things and turning them into something playful, bright, and colourfully drawn. Oil pastels are especially important to me because they allow me to be messy and drop the perfectionism. I am a huge advocate for traditional media and the happy accidents they often come with!
When I'm not covered in oil pastels, you'll likely find me exploring the city, filming silly videos, or curled up on the couch with a good book (and my cats, of course)!
